Your voice, not your face

Voice Chat With Strangers: Just Your Voice, No Camera

Meet someone new and simply talk. Voice mode keeps your camera off, carries tone and laughter, and is free to start with no sign-up to try.

Free to start · No sign-up to try

You want to talk to somebody. Out loud, with an actual voice, not a wall of typing. But you are in pyjamas, your hair is a mess, and the thought of a camera makes you close the tab. Voice chat is built for that exact moment. You get the warmth of a real conversation, the other person gets your words and your laugh, and nobody sees a thing.

Why Voice Beats Text and Video Sometimes

Each mode has its strengths, and voice sits in a useful middle ground.

  • Tone says what text cannot. A joke that falls flat in a message lands properly when you hear the grin behind it. Sarcasm, kindness and nerves all come through in a voice.
  • It frees your hands and eyes. You can cook, tidy a room, walk the dog or lie in the dark and still hold a proper conversation. Video asks for your full attention; voice does not.
  • It is less exposing than video. No face, no room, no outfit. Many people open up faster when they are not being looked at.
  • It is great for language practice. Hearing real speech at real speed from a stranger teaches more than a textbook dialogue, and nobody minds a slow reply.

Voice Call With Strangers: How It Starts

  1. Open ChatRandomegle and tap Start Chat.
  2. Choose the Audio tab on the start screen. That is the voice mode, next to Video and Text.
  3. Allow microphone access when your browser asks. It will not ask for the camera.
  4. Wait a moment while you are matched, then say hello.
  5. Keep talking or tap skip for the next person.

You can start without signing up, and the free starter matches are counted on the Audio tab. Longer or premium sessions can use coins, shown before you confirm. If you want a screen-by-screen tour first, see how ChatRandomegle works.

One practical point: the first few seconds of a voice call are always a little awkward, because two people say "hello?" at the same moment. Laugh about it. It is the best opener you will get.

Random Audio Chat Etiquette

Random audio chat has no etiquette police, but a few habits make nearly every call better.

  1. Start quiet, then adjust. Say hello at a normal volume. You will quickly hear whether the other person is close to their microphone or far from it.
  2. Use headphones if you can. Speakers cause echo, and echo makes both people sound like they are in a bathroom.
  3. Mute when you eat, sneeze or answer someone at home. It takes one tap and saves everybody a wince.
  4. Ask, then actually listen. The easiest question is "what is your night like?" Then follow up on whatever they say.
  5. Leave kindly. "I have to go, it was nice talking to you" is plenty. You never owe a long goodbye.

If you freeze on what to say, have a look at random chat topics. Several of them work better spoken than typed, like the "tell me about your day" family of questions.

Switch to Text or Video When You Want

Voice is not a commitment. If you would rather think before you answer, start the next match in random text chat. If you are curious about a face to go with the voice, video chat with strangers is one tap away. Each match is independent, so you can use all three in one evening.

Staying Safe on a Voice Call

A voice can reveal more than people expect: your accent, your city, the name someone calls out in the background. Keep personal details out of the first conversations. Do not give out your surname, number, workplace or address, and do not send money to anyone for any reason. If a chat gets pushy or uncomfortable, leave. The safety and house rules page explains blocking, reporting and the red flags worth ending a call over. And if you want the overview of all three modes, start from random chat.

Voice Chat With Strangers: Quick Answers

Does voice chat use my camera?

No. Voice mode only asks for your microphone. Your camera stays off, and the other person only hears you.

Is voice chat with strangers free?

It is free to start and you do not need to sign up to try. The free starter matches are counted on the video and audio tabs. Longer or premium sessions can use coins, and you see the cost before you confirm.

Can people hear my background noise?

Yes, a microphone picks up whatever is around you. Find a quiet spot or use headphones with a mic, and mute yourself when you are not talking.

How do I leave a voice chat I do not like?

Tap skip to move to the next match, or block and report the person. The buttons stay on screen for the whole call.
